Despite their decency and aloofness toward strangers, these dogs tend to get tangled with larger dogs capable of injuring them. In addition, despite how well they were socialized, trained, and raised, they are territorial and overestimate their size by nature.

In addition, hundreds of dogs are adopted from their home base in Texas. Despite being called “Texas Chihuahua Rescue,” they take in several small and toy breed dogs. Sometimes, even a large breed dog becomes an honorary Chi. South Texas faces a tremendous need to save animals.

Many choose only one species, or even a breed, that they have experience with and know their needs well. Their rescued dogs are placed in carefully selected foster homes. Their Chihuahuas receive love, health care, and mental recuperative care in a safe environment to thrive while they wait for their forever families. Their love for the Chihuahua breed led them to act when the call for a breed-specific rescue group was placed.

TXCR accepts small, blind, deaf, old, pregnant, abandoned, abused, behaviorally challenged animals and the cutest and best dogs anybody can imagine. They strive to be part of their community and part of the solution. Volunteers and some of the best adopters give the rescued furkids the best medical care and a loving family.
